My Role

I was responsible for the complete design of the uniforms, including both the jersey and pants. I developed concept sketches, selected the color direction, refined logo placement, and prepared print ready files. All design work and mockups were completed in Adobe Illustrator, ensuring precise alignment, scale, and production accuracy.

Context : The Zen Wushu uniforms were created to establish a unified and recognizable presence during competitions

Problem : Before the redesign, Zen Wushu athletes did not have official uniforms representing their school making it difficult for coaches, parents, and teammates to identify members at large events. The lack of unified apparel weakened the academy’s presence.

Solution

The final design embraced simplicity, clarity, and identity. The uniforms feature Zen Wushu’s signature Chinese characters, which form part of the school’s logo. To add a personal and symbolic touch, I integrated student silhouettes into the characters, representing the academy’s focus on discipline and teamwork. The color palette and overall style were intentionally minimalistic and professional balancing cultural authenticity with a clean, modern aesthetic suitable for both competition and everyday wear.

Jersey Design Process

Multiple revisions were made throughout the process from adjusting the color direction to resolving manufacturing errors in the initial production. Each iteration refined the balance between functionality, aesthetics, and brand representation to achieve the final design.

First I created a moodboard in are.na.

I generated an AI mockup on MidJourney.

Then began to work directly in Photoshop, allowing for quick visualization and feedback during development.

The main graphic is composed of three students performing. Representing the academy with strength & focus.

This iteration focused on refining logo placement, color balance, and composition.

The design that was selected.

Manufacturing Limitations

During sample production the factory could only print on two fabric panels instead of three requiring adjustments to the original three line graphic

The final design was selected.

Pants Design Process

Exploring different color options for the pants to complement the final uniform design and maintain overall balance in visibility and style

Exploring multiple color combinations to find the best balance between brand identity, contrast, and wearability.

Finalized uniform with color palette and typography.

Real-Life Examples

Photos of the final uniforms in use. The design achieves its purpose of visibility and unity making Zen Wushu athletes easy to recognize while maintaining a professional and cohesive team appearance.

Conclusion

The new uniforms significantly improved team recognition during tournaments students are now easy to spot both on and off the floor. Parents and coaches can identify the team instantly, and many students proudly wear their uniforms outside of class. The design has been well-received by the academy’s community, reinforcing school spirit and visual unity across all events.
